PRELUDE Donna Behe

INVOCATION (Remain Seated) Liturgist

Loving God,

You are the source of all beauty, faithfulness, and joy. We gather today to celebrate Your steadfast love and the covenant You have made with Your people.

Turn our hearts toward You and help us leave behind the distractions, worries, and burdens that compete for our attention. Draw us into Your presence, that we may delight in You as You delight in us.

Clothe us with Your grace and fill this place with Your Spirit. Remind us that we belong to You and that Your faithfulness endures through every generation.

Amen.

**UMH HYMN #400 “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

Verse 1

Come Thou fount of ev'ry blessing

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace

Streams of mercy never ceasing

Call for songs of loudest praise

Teach me some melodious sonnet

Sung by flaming tongues above

Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it

Mount of Thy redeeming love

Verse 2

Here I raise mine Ebenezer

Hither by Thy help I'm come

And I hope by Thy good pleasure

Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger

Wand'ring from the fold of God

He to rescue me from danger

Interposed His precious blood

Verse 3

O to grace how great a debtor

Daily I'm constrained to be

Let Thy goodness like a fetter

Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee

Prone to wander Lord I feel it

Prone to leave the God I love

Here's my heart Lord take and seal it

Seal it for Thy courts above

SCRIPTURE READING Romans 7:15-25 NRSV Liturgist

15 I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.

--

16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good.

--

17 But in fact it is no longer I who do it but sin that dwells within me.

--

18 For I know that the good does not dwell within me, that is, in my flesh. For the desire to do the good lies close at hand, but not the ability.

--

19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do.

--

20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it but sin that dwells within me.

--

21 So I find it to be a law that, when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand.

--

22 For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self,

--

23 but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.

--

24 Wretched person that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

--

25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I am enslaved to the law of God, but with my flesh I am enslaved to the law of sin.

SERMON “Good Intentions” Rev. Jacob T. Jackson

**TFWS HYMN #2130 “The Summons”

Verse 1

Will you come and follow Me

If I but call your name

Will you go where you don't know

And never be the same

Will you let My love be shown

Will you let My name be known

Will you let My life be grown

In you and you in Me

Verse 2

Will you leave yourself behind

If I but call your name

Will you care for cruel and kind

And never be the same

Will you risk the hostile stare

Should your life attract or scare

Will you let Me answer prayer

In you and you in Me

Verse 3

Will you let the blinded see

If I but call your name

Will you set the prisoners free

And never be the same

Will you kiss the leper clean

And do such as this unseen

And admit to what I mean

In you and you in Me

Verse 4

Will you love the you you hide

If I but call your name

Will you quell the fear inside

And never be the same

Will you use the faith you've found

To reshape the world around

Through My sight and touch and sound

In you and you in Me

Verse 5

Lord Your summons echoes true

When You but call my name

Let me turn and follow You

And never be the same

In Your company I'll go

Where Your love and footsteps show

Thus I'll move and live and grow

In You and You in me

CLOSING SONG “Just as I Am - I Come Broken”

Just as I am without one plea

But that thy blood was shed for me

And that thou bidst me come to thee

O Lamb of God I come, I come

I come broken to be mended

I come wounded to be healed

I come desp’rate to be rescued

I come empty to be filled

I come guilty to be pardoned

By the blood of Christ, the lamb

And I’m welcomed with open arms

Praise God just as I am

Just as I am and waiting not

To rid my soul of one dark blot

To thee whose blood

can cleanse each spot

O Lamb of God I come, I come

I come broken to be mended

I come wounded to be healed

I come desp’rate to be rescued

I come empty to be filled

I come guilty to be pardoned

By the blood of Christ, the lamb

And I’m welcomed with open arms

Praise God just as I am

Just as I am I would be lost

But mercy and grace

my freedom bought

And now to glory in your cross

O Lamb of God I come

I come broken to be mended

I come wounded to be healed

I come desp’rate to be rescued

I come empty to be filled

I come guilty to be pardoned

By the blood of Christ, the lamb

And I’m welcomed with open arms

Praise God just as I am

Praise God just as I am
